Belize Itinerary:

7 Nights in Cayo & Placencia

Where adventure meets laid-back vibes.

Best of Belize: 7-Night Cayo & Placencia Itinerary

From ancient Maya ruins to the Belize Barrier Reef — one trip, two worlds.

Belize is small enough to do it all, and this is the itinerary that proves it. Seven nights split between the jungle-covered hills of the Cayo District and the laid-back Caribbean shores of Placencia, built for travelers who want ruins in the morning and reef in the afternoon — without the stress of piecing it together themselves.

The Route: Jungle to Beach

3 nights, Cayo District — Home base at a handpicked jungle lodge tucked into the Macal River valley. Wake up to birdsong, fall asleep to the sound of the rainforest.

4 nights, Placencia — A beachfront stay in one of Belize's most charming coastal villages, where golf carts outnumber cars and the barrier reef is a short boat ride away.

One private overland transfer connects the two — about 3 hours through Belize's countryside, with the Hummingbird Highway views alone worth the drive.

What This Trip Looks Like

Day 1 — Arrival Private meet & greet at the airport, straight to your jungle lodge. First afternoon is yours — settle in, and let the rainforest do the rest.

Day 2 — Ancient Ruins & Underground Rivers A visit to Xunantunich, one of Belize's most striking Maya sites — a 40-meter temple with views across two countries — followed by a guided canoe tour through a cave once used for ancient Maya ceremonies. (Adventure seekers can upgrade this day to the ATM Cave experience.)

Day 3 — Slow Jungle Day A day built for doing as little or as much as you want: nature trails, birdwatching, or just a hammock and the sound of the river.

Day 4 — Transfer to the Coast Private road transfer from the mountains to the sea. Check into your beachfront stay in Placencia by evening.

Day 5 — Reef Day A full day out on Belize's barrier reef — snorkeling protected marine sites where rays, nurse sharks, and vibrant coral are part of the scenery, capped with a beach barbecue.

Day 6 — Placencia, On Island Time Golf-cart your way through the village — local art, seafood shacks, and beach time, at whatever pace you like.

Day 7 — Wildlife & Waterfalls A full-day trip into Cockcomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary — jaguar country — with hiking, river tubing, and a swim under a waterfall to close out the trip.

Day 8 — Departure Short domestic flight back to Belize City for your onward journey.
